Etymology

From modern Latin Aegicerataceae; from Aegiceras, name of a plant genus; from Latin aex, aegis, from Greek aix, aigis, «goat»; and Latin ceras, cerat-, from Greek keras, kerat-, «horn», probably because its fruits resemble goat's horns; and the Latin suffix -aceae, «-aceous».
