Etymology

From modern Latin Aextoxicaceae; from Aextoxicon, name of a plant genus; from Latin aex, from Greek aix, «goat», from PIE aig, «goat»; and Greek toxicon, «toxic», «poisonous», probably because these species are dangerous for goats; and the Latin suffix -aceae, «-aceous».
