Aizoaceae

noun Bot. Family of dicotyledonous plants, herbaceous or somewhat woody, of curious shapes, with axillary or terminal flowers, thick terminal leaves, and dehiscent capsular fruits. They look similar to the fig tree.

Type genus: Aizoa.

Synonym: obs. Ficoidaceae.

Etymology

From modern Latin Aizoaceae; from Aizoa, name of a plant genus; and the Latin suffix -aceae, «-aceous».
