Onion - Medicinal Properties

Onion (Allium cepa) is a bulbous, herbaceous plant that is used in folk medicine as antitussive (that is, a medicine that is used to treat cough).

How to Use Onions

Onions are usually employed combined with sugar. There are 2 main methods to prepare onions for curative purposes: one uses them raw; the other, cooked.

In order to prepare raw onions, do as follows. First, thinly slice onions in the amount equivalent to 1 cup. In a bowl, place the onion slices interspersed with sugar. Let it stand overnight. The next day, strain the liquid leaked from the onion slices. Take one tablespoon of this liquid four times a day.

In order to prepare cooked onions, do as follows. Chop an onion head into small pieces. Put them in a pot, add a cup of water and 3 teaspoons of sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer until half of the liquid is consumed. Adults, take one tablespoon, 4 times a day; children, 1 teaspoon, 3 times a day.
